HU Theme Class

A Year of Research for Sustainability: Humboldt University Foundation "Sustainability & Global Justice" Theme Classes.

The Humboldt-Theme Class is a unique format developed by the university as part of the Germany Fellowship Program. It is a successful concept that has been setting the course for young scholars since 2013.
Every year, 15 students from different disciplines research at the Humboldt University Foundation's "Sustainability & Global Justice" thematic class. They work on a joint research project and are supervised by scientists from the Integrative Research Institute on Transformations of Human-Environment Systems (IRI THESys). In interdisciplinary teams, the fellows develop and plan their projects and implement them independently. The participating institutes under the umbrella of IRI THESys promote innovative research approaches at the interfaces of humanities, social and natural sciences. Past research topics have included the sustainable use of water resources, the energy transition and sustainable food markets.
